Get internal mobility signed off with numbers nobody can argue with

You know internal mobility would help. The problem is the twenty minutes in front of a finance director who wants to know what it costs, what it saves, and why the figures in your paper came from somebody else's organisation.

What's inside

01

The five numbers you need, and where each one lives — a table giving, for each number, who in your organisation holds it, the exact sentence to send them, and what to do if the answer is "we don't track that"

02

How to build the comparison — internal move versus external hire, using only your own figures, including the backfill most papers leave out

03

A worked example — the arithmetic demonstrated end to end with clearly invented placeholder figures for you to replace

04

The business case template — eight sections, four pages, with what belongs in each and roughly how long it should be

05

The three objections you will get — "we'll train them and they'll leave", "this is an HR system, not a business investment", and the chain-of-vacancies one — with an answer to each drawn from your own data

06

What to do when the numbers genuinely aren't there — how to propose something smaller that produces the evidence, rather than something larger that assumes it

Who it's for

HR, talent and L&D leads in organisations of roughly 250 to 5,000 people who need to convince someone else to fund this. It assumes you have no budget authority and limited time. It will not suit you if what you want is a set of published statistics to paste into a slide — this guide contains none, deliberately, because that is the part of a business case that gets picked apart first.

How long it takes

Six pages. Fifteen minutes to read. After that, the work is two or three emails and roughly half a day of chasing, most of which is waiting for other people to reply.

You will stop presenting a case that can be dismissed with "that's not our experience".

You will present one built entirely from figures your own organisation gave you, with the weak points named before anyone else can name them.
