We helped create a digital careers experience that brings those opportunities together — making it easier for people to understand where they could fit, discover live opportunities and take their next step.
The challenge
Cogent Skills has a broad remit. It works with employers across science and engineering, supports apprenticeships and early talent programmes, and helps build the skills these industries need for the future.
That creates a digital challenge too.
Different audiences arrive looking for very different things — from someone searching for their first apprenticeship to an experienced professional looking for a new opportunity or considering a career with Cogent Skills itself.
The challenge was to make those opportunities visible without making the experience complicated.
We needed to create clear routes into careers content, bring vacancies closer to the wider Cogent Skills proposition and make it easy for people to move from exploring an opportunity to taking action.
The journey
We started by looking at the different audiences Cogent Skills needed to serve and the journeys each of them would take.
Rather than treating vacancies as a standalone destination, we looked at how careers content could become part of the wider website experience.
That meant creating clearer routes, connecting relevant content and opportunities, and designing an experience that could support both industry vacancies and Cogent Skills’ own recruitment.
The result is a careers experience designed around the questions visitors actually have:
What opportunities are available?
Which ones are right for me?
What is it like to work here?
And what should I do next?
The solution
The Cogent Skills website brings careers and vacancies into a much broader digital ecosystem.
Visitors can explore opportunities across science-based industries, find apprenticeships and other roles, register for job alerts and discover what a career with Cogent Skills itself could look like.
Behind that experience is a flexible platform that allows opportunities to change without the careers experience having to be rebuilt around them.
And because careers content sits alongside Cogent Skills’ wider services, sectors and expertise, the website can do more than advertise vacancies. It can help people understand the organisation, the industries it supports and the opportunities available within them.
The results
The result is a stronger platform for career visibility — giving Cogent Skills a clearer way to connect people with opportunities across the industries it serves as well as within its own organisation.
It creates a foundation that can continue to be improved through content, search visibility, stronger internal journeys and conversion measurement as Cogent Skills’ digital strategy develops.
More importantly, it demonstrates how careers content can become part of an organisation’s wider digital presence rather than sitting separately from it.
